Where can I get unique clothing cheaply?
Anonymous, 19
This depends on what you mean by ‘unique’ and ‘cheap’. There are lots of places I go to find clothes, and I like to think that on my budget I manage to look like ‘me’, not like a high-street clone!
Something you should try doing is scanning the internet for websites such as boohoo.com and dollydagger.co.uk which offer some great prices and amazing clothes. Dolly Dagger is, granted, a little dearer, but its “sale” section is awesome for cheap and unique!
I know that you have probably heard this a thousand times before, but charity shops and markets are also great! You might not like to go in with your mates or whatever, but you can get some vintage stuff for amazingly low prices! (Just last week I got myself a gorgeous vintage beaded clutch for £3!)
Other places to search are fashion shows like the Birmingham NEC clothes show, which has some high designer stuff, but also some up-and-coming designers showcasing work at phenomenally low prices!
Any advice for a wanna-be designer who’s parents don’t want to know?
Alana
Well well well… so much to say, so little space, Alana!
We’ll tackle the parents first. You don’t say what their ambitions for you are, but you need to let them know that it’s your life, and you’ll live it how the hell you like! There are far worse things you could be doing than designing. (I have to tell you, a little bribery and success goes a long way; my parents hated that I wanted to be a journalist until they found out what I do for this magazine!) But bear in mind that they are your parents, and you don’t want to alienate them. I assume they’re your main source of funding…? Good luck!
How do you walk in high heels?
Caz, UK
Start low and work your way up. If you find yourself falling over in three inch heels start a little lower and keep going until you’ve mastered that particular height. What did your parents always tell you went you were little? Practice makes perfect! And do you know WHY they told you that? Because it’s true! You’ll get there in the end.
I have a first date with a tall guy. What size heels should I wear?
Anna, 19, Australia
The short answer is whichever size you can cope with walking in. Personally, I find kitten heels are about my limit, but if you’re capable of walking well in 4 inch stilettos, then all I can say to you is “Go for it, girl!”, I’m sure you’ll knock him dead.
Something else you might want to consider, though, Anna, is how much of a Barbie you are likely to turn into. It would seem to me that if you wore 4” heels for your first date, you’ll want to top that on your second, which could turn you into a bit of a Posh Spice. And let’s face it, honey, she’s plastic!
With all that in mind, good luck with your date, and remember; if you end up teetering on heels far too high for you, I did warn you!
